We are honored to share that Black Box Diaries has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards.
Directed by journalist and filmmaker Shiori Ito, the film begins from her own personal experience and confronts issues of sexual violence, power, justice, and the meaning of speaking out in contemporary Japan.
While rooted in an intensely personal perspective, the story reaches far beyond national borders, raising profound questions for audiences around the world.
Yuta Okamura, founder of Studio One Film, participated in the film as a co-producer and cinematographer.
From the early stages of development to principal photography in Tokyo and London, he supported the project from both creative and production perspectives, working as part of the team to help preserve the film’s urgent voice, intimate point of view, and visual strength.
Black Box Diaries is not only a record of one person’s voice reaching society, but also a powerful reminder of what documentary cinema can do.
This Academy Award nomination marks an important recognition of the film’s courage, honesty, and cinematic expression on the international stage.
We are deeply honored to have been part of this important work, and grateful that the film continues to reach audiences around the world and spark meaningful conversations.
We extend our deepest respect to director Shiori Ito, the entire filmmaking team, and everyone who supported this film.
