The Noble Witness, a short documentary we are making about Shoji Oda, has been selected for support through the George and Sakaye Aratani CARE Award at UCLA's Asian American Studies Center. The program supports projects that benefit Japanese American communities.
The film follows a wood-carving artist who survived the wartime incarceration of Japanese Americans. Through conversation and the everyday act of making art, it explores how that history continues to live in a person's memory and creative life.
Yuta Okamura directs the documentary, with Apo W. Bazidi producing through Burn a Light Productions. We are continuing work on a film that carries this history forward through one person's life.
